Financial Quick Picks - MTG Hit List [Edward Eng]
First of all, Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mothers out there that gave birth to us so we can play Magic. Without moms, there wouldn't be a Richard Garfield. There wouldn't be Magic. So thank you Mom for everything! And if you can, don't forget to say thank you to your mom today and every day.
Before I get ready to meet my extended family for a Mother's Day feast, I'd like to give you some quick hits as to what I think you should be picking up in trades.
Khans of Tarkir Fetches
These fetches aren't gonna get any lower. If you don't have your playset, you'd better pick them up soon before they disappear from trade binders and display cases. These can only go up from here as they are obviously multi-format all-star lands.
Mono Red Aggro is always gonna be around. And this card is a pretty good hate card. But not only is it tough for Mono Red to handle, it's great against many other decks as it pumps your Siege Rhinos to defeat opposing ones. Plus, it poses inevitability against control decks. More importantly, Sorin has been popping up in Modern decks both in the main deck and sideboard. It's pretty hard for this planeswalker to drop any lower than 10 bucks. Keep an eye out for cheap foil versions.
This one is a bit more speculative. But at slightly under 8 bucks, it's hard not to see this powerful planeswalker tick up in price during rotation in October. We obviously don't know what new cards will come out. But we do know that Stormbreath Dragon will leave Standard. However, cards like Abzan Charm will stick around. In any case, you could do worse than pick these up in trades for 8 bucks.
Big Daddy Pyromancer has taken quite a fall from its initial price. But this is why I think it's time to start stocking up on these and cash in on the rebound. This card sees play in Standard's Bant Heroic. It also sees Miracles play in Legacy. And it even sees play in various Vintage decks. It'll definitely take a few more tier 1 Standard decks to push it's price back up. So we'll have to see what happens after rotation. That being said, you don't want to be left with your pants down in October. It's around 15 now, and I can't see this card hitting 10. Foil versions are most likely the way to go for Legacy. And foreign versions for Vintage like Korean, Japanese, and Russian.
One last bit of advice would be to pick up cards on the reserved list. It's pretty hard to go wrong with cards that'll never be printed again. These obviously go towards fueling your long-term stocks in your portfolio.
Let me know what you think in the comments below or on social media.
Don't forget to say thank you to your mom today and every day.
Peace, love, and good games...
