Financial Quick Picks - MTG Hit List, Get in before Pro Tour Oath of the Gatewatch [Edward Eng - Battlemage, Level 41]

2015 is almost over, and Pro Tour Oath of the Gatewatch is just around the corner. Although the whole Oath of the Gatewatch set hasn't been spoiled yet, these are the cards I think you should be picking up for Modern before they spike.

Shocklands

Return to Ravnica

Gatecrash

These lands are some of the most played lands of the format. If you don't have your set now, you'd better finish it QUICK. There's a lot of supply out there, but these lands are just too cheap right now. They'll definitely see an uptick if not a spike after PTOGW.

Cavern of Souls

This card is still very expensive. But rightfully so since it's a multi-format all-star. Plus, I think a good number of people have forgotten that it produces colorless mana. This definitely makes the land even more versatile as we start to see <> cards populate the card pool. If you don't have your set now, it's probably a good idea to get it soon. The price will probably continue to slowly increase until there's a reprint. And even then, I doubt a reprint will affect its price too much.

Abrupt Decay

Here's another multi-format all-star. And this one's only sitting around $13. I think it'll hit $20 after PTOGW. Get your set now, and it doesn't hurt to pick up extras. It's probably one of the hottest cards I have in my binder. People always need or want this card. It's just so powerful and good.

Thoughtseize

Yes, there's Inquisition of Kozilek in Modern and Cabal Therapy in Legacy. But Thoughtseize has and always will be one of the best hand disruption spells out there. I doubt Wizards will ever print a hand disruption spell more powerful than this one. The price of this card can only go back up until it's reprinted. And even then, it'll probably just be in a Modern Masters set unless Wizards wants to piss a bunch of people off again by putting it back in Standard.

I'm really looking forward to 2016, Oath of the Gatewatch, and PTOGW. It's gonna be a great year! I'll be at Grand Prix Oakland in January, the Regional Pro Tour Qualifier in Dallas in February, and Grand Prix Houston. Definitely hit me up at the events if you're gonna be there.

Galactic Treasures is also planning to host its first tournament in 2016. So stay tuned for that.

Until then, enjoy the Christmas break. And don't forget to have a fun and safe New Year celebration.
